Welcome to Fuel Your Body Friday!

Fall for me is all about new beginnings and getting my life in order. What better way to do that than to start with food! Every Friday I will be bringing you some healthy food ideas for you to try out for the whole family.

This month I’m partnering with Baby Brain Organics to bring you some great smoothie recipes that come with the Dyer kid seal of approval (which is actually very stringent).

Baby Brain Organics is run by Amy who is also a mom and by my standards a health guru. They make BABY and KIDS nutrient boosters that you can add to your kids’ regular meals, which makes getting healthy food into them (the kids) a lot easier and meal time a lot more enjoyable, for me anyway.

We started off with this Watermelon Whale Smoothie recipe and since it hasn’t turned cold here yet (surprisingly) it seemed like a nice refreshing choice. My eldest son picked this one out because he LOVES watermelon. If you put an entire watermelon in front of him he would have no trouble eating the whole thing, and I have no problem with that because there are a ton of health benefits to consuming watermelon. It is good for your skin, great for digestion, can help with blood pressure and reducing inflammation and because of its high lycopene content is great for protecting against heart disease.

Watermelon Whale Ingredients

My kids love to drink juice and I really don’t like it, both for their bodies and for their teeth so we don’t have it in the house often. This smoothie is a great alternative to juice and doesn’t have the yogurt texture of a regular smoothie which is a turn off for some. My son guzzled this; he preferred it without the kale, which was fine with me because it had Baby Brain Organics in it. I loved it WITH the kale because it adds a refreshing almost cocktail taste to it which is totally up my alley.

Either way you make it, this one was a winner in our house.
